How do I get an "A" in Mr. Patterson's class?

The easiest way is by being a student for 5 days a week for 9 months. 
A student
--is prepared for class and attends regularly.
--keeps a binder with work in progress or work completed.
--has read the material assigned and is prepared to understand it or ask
questions about material not understood.
--acts properly during labs.
--does labs in a thoughtful manner and turns lab reports in complete.
--practices with and goes over classwork to prepare for class or quizzes.
--does not wait until the last minute to prepare for quizzes, tests or to
complete projects.

I was absent, do I still have to make up the work?

Yes, no one did your work for you while you were out. If they did, they 
would get the grade for it. You still have to understand the information
you missed. Conference with me if your classmate's notes don't make sense.

Can I stay after school to meet with you?

I stay at late at school (after 4PM) almost every day. Just let me know you 
need to see me and I'll make sure I have time for you.

Can I contact you by email if I'm away from school?

Sure, use the email link in the school directory or the one on the opening 
page of my website here. Your parents my find this handy too, instead of
playing "phone tag."

Why is there a final grade for Science on my child's report card?

6th grade Science only lasts two marking periods at Northeast MS.  The last 
two marking periods of the year are for the study of Eastern Hemisphere
ancient cultures.
