Rules for Mrs. Brown’s Class
NEW !!!
2009-2010
1. I expect reasonable, respectful behavior(Don't forget - this is a sign of
self-respect as well).
2. Do not ask to leave class unless it is an emergency: You must use the
required pass for the restroom, and you must receive a pass from me in order
to go to the nurse. If you walk out for any reason without permission, I will
write a referral.
3. If you have a very serious emergency, go to the nurse before class. You
must have a pass when you come to class. If you are not feeling well, come to
class first, and ask me for a pass. You must return with a pass if you are
not sent home.
4. Do your own work; I will not accept copied writing or cheating during
tests. The grade you will receive is a ZERO. Safe Assignment is a new program
that you will be required to use for research papers and other writing
assignments. It detects cheating.
5. Food and drinks are not permitted at your desk or near any of the
computers. Leave bottles on the table next to the filing cabinet in the front
of the room. Any bottles left behind will be thrown out. I suggest you mark
your bottles. Absolutely no gum may be chewed in my room (throw it out upon
entering my room).
6. When you leave my room, you must sign out in the log . You must also sign
back in. If you are on the filing cabinet by the door. If you are late, sign
in.
7. Your first and last names must be on all assignments. I will not grade
your assignment if you do not place your name on it, and it may be thrown out
if I cannot determine ownership. Turn all work in on time. There will be 10
percentage point reductions for late assignments.
8. You have two days from the last day of your absence to turn in an
assignment (without a late penalty). If the absence is at the end of the six
weeks (and you don’t hand in the work), you will receive an incomplete. You
will have two weeks to make up the incomplete.
9. Raise your hand if you want to say something. Limit your comments to
about 30 seconds during class conversations. This rule is in consideration of
other students, and we also need time to complete the required materials.
10. Begin working as soon as you enter the classroom. Look for your class bell
ringer on the whiteboard or SMARTboard. Unfinished work will be in the class
bins (located on the bookshelf under the bulletin board). The bins will be
cleared indiscriminately at the end of each marking period.
11. Please do not enter the area behind my desk without permission, and only
when you need help on an assignment. I may have confidential information on
my computer screen, etc.
12. No sitting on the window sills. We have brand new, comfortable desks.
13. Nobody is free to criticize others in my classroom. Harassment or
bullying is not tolerated. You will not be given a warning (this is your
warning). You will receive a referral to the office.
14. Use of cell phones is strictly prohibited. I will confiscate them whether
they are visible or not. I will call the office if you do not relinquish
your item upon request. In case of emergencies or the need to transmit
messages to you, parents should phone the office.
15. Dress code violations will be enforced.
16. Internet usage is limited to work assigned in my class.
Violations of these rules will result in a call to your parents, a mention
on the progress report, consequences in or out of the classroom, and a
referral to administration. I am personally accountable for your computer
usage in my room.
Be respectful and mindful of the rules, and you will have an excellent year.
Thank you.
