I was born in Clarksville, Tennessee, a few decades ago. I grew up in
central New York, graduating from Cincinnatus Central School with 45 people
in my class.
I graduated from St. Bonaventure University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in
English. This past May I completed the Master's degree program for Adolescent
Literacy at St. Bonaventure.
This will be my fifth year teaching in Bradford. Previously I taught at
Otto-Eldred High School and Olean Middle School. I have two sons, ages 8
and 6, and a baby daughter who turned 3 in August.
During the sophomore year of English, students will read literature that
reflects the themes of justice, conflict, success, destiny and decision-
making.
This literature includes short stories, poetry, a novel titled Lord of the
Flies, a novel titled Night, and William Shakespeare's
Julius Caesar.
Students will write critically about the stories' characterization,
conflicts, symbolism and pivotal moments.
Students will also write a position research paper that is based on one of
the themes listed above.
By the end of the school year, my mission for students is that they will
think more critically and be better able to defend a position on a particular
issue.
