8th Grade Parents Survival Guide

There are MANY traditions that St. Peter's Eighth Graders have the opportunity to enjoy.  Toward the end of the year the events become somewhat overwhelming.  The following list has been created to give you a summary of what to anticipate for the upcoming school year.

8th Grade Dues:   Each eighth grader is responsible for payment of dues.  This year they are $100.00.  This covers a variety of events including:  diplomas, graduation awards, class trip, children’s book, class picture, class t-shirts, tureen dinner, graduation cap and gown.  You may pay these at one time (preferred, if possible) or make payments in installments.  Payment must be received by March 1st.  Checks are to be made payable to “ CathedralCenter ”.   PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD GIVE THEM TO THEIR HOMEROOM TEACHER!  If they are sent to the business office, we may not get a record of the payment.

Biography Tea:   March 27th at 1:00. After completing a biography of an elder in the family, the eight graders invite their “subject” to a reception at school.   Each student reads an excerpt of his/her biography and present the book to his/her guest.  A light reception will follow.   This is a dress-up day for the students.

8th Grade retreat:  May 19th is the last retreat for the 8th graders.  Dress is casual.

Tureen Dinner:   May 22nd the eighth graders and their parents will be invited to a tureen dinner at school.  At this time we all will have the opportunity to view the class memory video.  After the dinner, the students are invited to stay for a dance.  This, too, is a dress-up day for the students.

Class Trip:   May 29th the students will spend the day on their class trip.  The students will voted on the destination. This is a full and exciting day for the class to bond.  Dress will be casual.

8th Grade Mass:   June 1st, at 9:15 a.m. will be the eighth grade mass at the Cathedral.  Families and friends are invited to attend.  Again, this is a dress-up day.

Graduation:   June 1st at 7:00 p.m. is graduation.  This is in the Cathedral.   Students will wear caps and gowns with dress clothes underneath.   Jackets are necessary for the boys, but they do not have to wear them under their gowns.  Before graduation a class picture will be taken that will be sent home to the students.

There will be more information on each event as the date draws near.  We look forward to an exciting year for your child.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
