Welcome to Dallas Middle School! In this school term, 2011-2012, for the
first quarter the sixth grade students will have Study Skills, the seventh
grade students will have Money Matters and the eighth grade classes will
have Career Awareness.
Study Skills helps the sixth grade student with some skills to be a
successful student at Dallas Middle School. From organizing their lockers to
following directions and taking tests, skill activities will help the sixth
grade adapt to this new school setting.
For the Money Matters class seventh grade students will participate in the
Finance Park program sponsored by Junior Achievement to learn about basic
finances which will culminate with a visit to Finance Park as they practice
their skills in all aspects of managing a budget of family expenses.
The eighth grade will explore what they want for their future career as they
identify their values, interests, skills, and desires. A career survey will
help them to determine what careers might suit them best. They will do some
research to learn about some career choices. Later in the Spring of 2012
they will participate in a Career Day event to learn even more about careers.
Beginning with second quarter the Family & Consumer Science classes will be
returning to room 101 which will be the site for sixth grade students to
begin their study of nutrition, and the seventh and eighth grade students to
review and build upon the nutrition they learned last year. Basic nutrition,
food safety, kitchen safety, following a recipe and some basic food
preparation skills will keep students busy each quarter. Nutriman is
looking forward to sharing his nutrition knowledge with the students.
