All Elementary students in the Dallas School District visit the library with
their class once a week during a sheduled class period. To assist you in
knowing when library books are due, we always
place a "date due" card in the pocket of the library book.
Students in grades K-2 are allowed to sign out one book at a time and it is
due the next time they visit the library. However, students may renew a
book if they wish. Grades 3-5 are allowed two books signed out in their
name and the books may be kept for three (3) six-day cycles. These books may
also be renewed if necessary. If the students are assigned a book report or
have a special classroom project, they are allowed to take out a third book.
Reference books are due the next time the child visits the library.
Please encourage your child to treat library books with care. Should a book
become damaged or lost, please have your child notify the librarian or
library aide. We realize that accidents happen! However, it is usually
necessary to pay for a replacement if the book is no longer usable.
We have had several "accidents" involving library books being damaged when a
water or juice bottle leaks in a backpack. It is advisable to make sure
that lids are screwed on tightly - the teacher can always loosen the lid if
necessary once the child gets his/her books unpacked.
