Welcome Message

Welcome to Epiphany of Our Lord School. We are a Pre-K to Grade 8 school
located in the heart of South Philadelphia. Our school was established in
1898 and was staffed by the Sisters of Saint Joseph. In the late 1950's,
the Epiphany of Our Lord Parish launched a capital campaign to build a new
school building on the property of 1248 Jackson Street. The parish
purchased the property from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The site
previously served as the annex to South East Catholic High School. The new
school opened in September of 1964. This building has continued to provide
a quality Catholic Education to the children of the parish. In 1989, the
Sisters of Saint Joseph decided that it was necessary to remove the sisters
from the teaching ministry at Epiphany Parish due to the shortage of sisters
and a decrease in vocations to the religious life. At this point in our
school's history, the school was staffed by a full lay faculty and
administration. The school has continued to thrive under the dedicated
service of the pastor, priests, principal, faculty, staff, parents and
parishioners.

We have been accredidated by the Middle States Association of Elementary
Schools. We offer a comprehensive and rigorous academic education, rooted
in the teachings of Jesus Christ. Our staff consists of 11 full time
teachers, a full time Reading Specialist, a part time Computer teacher, a
part time Art teacher, a part time Physical Education teacher, and a part
time Music teacher. Our auxilary staff consists of a Math and Reading
teacher, psychologist, social worker, speech teacher, and nurse. Our
classes range in size from 20 to 25 students.

For additional information, please contact the school office (215)467-5385.

The following is the belief statement that the Epiphany of Our Lord Learning
Community has established as the core of our beliefs for the education of
the young people who have been entrusted to our care.

                              Belief Statements
We believe that:

* The faculty and staff must work in a partnership with the parents, parish,
and community to guide and educate the students to become young adults of
Christian character.

* Lines of communication must be kept open.

* Effective education creates lifelong learners.

* Each student is a unique child of God who is worthy of happiness and
success.

* Each child must be educated to his/her fullest potential.

* Spiritual growth is an integral part of a well rounded Christian.

* Every teacher must work to develop students who are capable of applying
critical thinking and problem solving skills in all aspects of life.

* Personal and academic growth of faculty and students is critical.

* Individual differences need to be embraced with each child accepted and
respected for their uniqueness.

* True knowledge is the ability to apply the known to the unknown.

* All learning modalities need to be addressed in all areas of instruction.

* School provides the bridge between spiritual and civic responsibility.

* We are one in faith, one in love, and one in the witness of Christ Jesus
now and into the future.
