Why do we have to study history?

Although this question is like a dagger to my heart, I understand why 
students ask it time and time again. I'll do my best to explain why I think 
history is important. It is always important to know what you come from. I 
think it is also crucial to have a good understanding of the sacrifices those 
who came before you have made. Learning about the past helps guide our 
futures. Also, a solid background in Social Studies creates knowledgeable 
citizens who take pride in their civic duty.
