I am a 2003 graduate of Cameron County High School. I attended Lock Haven
University for my undergraduate work. I graduated in 2007 with a B.S. in
Elementary Education. In 2009, I earned my Middle School Reading and Language
Arts certificate. I am currently working on earning my Master's Degree in
Reading and Literary from Edinboro University.
My husband, Mr. Kuhn, is a Spanish Teacher at Bradford High. We have one
dog, a pug named Miller and we are expecting our first child this November!
My hobbies include running, reading, watching movies and spending time with
my family and friends.
This is my third year teaching at Fretz. I absolutely LOVE teaching 7th
grade. It's a wonderful family and I feel extremely lucky to be a part of it.
My mission for the students is to encourage a love of reading. I will do this
through modeling my love of reading and sharing the positive experiences I
have had through books. We will explore a variety of texts and
genres allowing the students to target their interests.
Another mission I have for the students is to understand the importance of
previewing text and being actively involved in the reading process. This will
be through determining text features such as: text type, text identification,
fiction or nonfiction, point of view, text organization, and the author's
purpose.
The active reader also reads the questions first, highlights key words, and
takes margin notes or 2 column notes while reading.
Studies have proven that the active reader consistently scores higher and
better comprehends information than the non-active. Active
reading will be required in class and encouraged outside of the classroom as
well.
