How can I help the band?
Help at the concession stand, chair a fundraiser or event, volunteer for the
phone chain, voice your opinions, concerns, suggestions, NEW IDEAS. SUPPORT
OUR BAND AT GAMES AND COMPETITIONS BY YOUR PRESENCE. Call an officer, there
are plenty of ways to help.
Why are there so many fundraisers?
THE IMPORTANCE OF FUNDRAISERS - it may seem to new parents (and parents
who've been around for a while, too) that we have TONS of fundraisers. We
do - but for a reason. The more fundraisers we have, the more opportunities
for students to earn money toward the Annual Spring Band Trip. The trip is
generally held the first weekend in May - 3 days, 2 nights - to destinations
such as Williamsburg, Cleveland, Boston, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C.
It's a lot of fun and a great experience for anyone who attends. The
average cost per student is about $300. 80% to 100% of profits from
fundraisers such as the Gertrude Hawk Candy Sale, Cookie Dough, Fruit Sale,
Candle Sale, and Smencils go directly into the student's account to be used
to offset the cost of the trip - even to pay for the trip entirely. We
offer a variety of fundraisers because all sales don't work for all people -
you and your child might have more luck selling candy bars than cookie
dough - easier to sell Smencils but not so much with fruit. Our goal is to
make it possible for each band member to be able to enjoy the Spring Trip -
and raising money through the fundraisers is a means to that end.
Who can I contact by e-mail with questions?
If you have a question or issue for Mr. Bunnell - such as your child will
not be at practice/performance or what time your child needs to be at the
school, you can direct your e-mail directly to him at bunnellb@gnasd.com.
If you have a question, comment or suggestion regarding the Band
Association, please use the e-mail icon in the top right-hand corner of the
home page or click on the word "E-Mail" on the top right of every other
page. That e-mail will be directed to Nancy Tomko, and you will
receive a reply as soon as possible.
