What types of activities are completed during Mr. G's library classes?
Students will complete a number of different activities during
the school year. These activities will vary depending on grade
level. Students in First Grade will primarily be engaged in
literature appreciation and author identification. Students will
read three chapter books and engage in some basic computer activities.
Fourth and Fifth Grade students will complete many of the same
activities. These activities include an introduction to Web 2.0
tools such as wikis and blogs, both of which will be completed
with basic research activities. Fourth Grade students will
read "BFG" while Fifth Grade students will read "Holes."
Students in these grades will also participate in the Acclerated
Reader and STAR Reading programs.
Sixth and Seventh Grade students will continue their work with
Web 2.0 resources with a focus on completing a book review Wiki.
Sixth Grade students will read "Al Capone Does My Shirts" and "Coraline"
while Seventh Grade students will read "When You Reach Me".
How are students' grades calculated?
Student grades in 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th grade will be calculated as follows:
Behavior/Participation - 33%
Passing 4 AR Quizzes (with an 85% on each) per Semester - 33%
Daily Work - 33%
First grade students do not receive a grade.
What does Mr. G like to read?
I am generally interested in reading non-fiction. I like
biographies and books about politics or history. I used to be a
social studies teacher, so that probably explains my interests.
My favorite books include "Slaughterhouse V," "The Years of
Lyndon Johnson, Volumes I-III," "The Power Broker," "The Guns of
August," "Lenin's Tomb," and "On the Road." My favorite elementary/middle school
books include "An Ant's Day Off," "The Polar Express," "Al Capone Does My
Shirts," "James and the Giant Peach," and "Fever 1793
