![]() Child Study TeamThe Child Study Team (CST) is a group of professional personnel who meet to discuss concerns relative to a student's school functioning. Concerns can be academic, behavioral, emotional and/or social. The goal of the CST is to maximize individual student success in the regular education classroom and to serve as a screening mechanism for students who may be in need of special services. The CST is a positive, success-oriented program, which utilizes specific intervention techniques to help students to be successul at GNA.
Any elementary student who experiences academic or behavioral problems may be a candidate for the CST. This includes new or continuing students who begin to display problems in school. Students are identified for CST services by the child's classroom teacher, other educators, or parents. A student may be referred to the CST more than once, and more than one school year.
Members
The CST includes the building principal, the student's classroom teacher, the student's parent, and the school counselor. The school psychologist, the reading specialist, school nurse, speech clinician and/or a learning support teacher may be invited to participate when needed. Other individuals may be called upon to serve on the team, depending on the needs of the student. How CST Works Referrals are submitted to me by the classroom teacher. Referrals are handled in the order in which they are received. Then I contact the parent to invite them to attend the CST meeting. CST meetings are held monthly in the Elementary Center conference room or my office in KM Smith. We will make every effort to accommodate a parent's work schedule with the schedules of the members of CST. |
