Grading Policy
Your
quarter grade will be calculated using weighted averages. Weighted averages are calculated by taking
the sum of the scores you received divided by the sum of the total points
possible in the marking period. The
following items will be used as assessments during the marking period.
Tests (2-3 per marking
period) 100
pts. each
Quizzes (2-3 per marking period) 50 pts. each
PSSA
Prep
25 pts. each
1. Quiz every other Friday on
daily sponge problems
2. Open ended practice (4-5
submissions per quarter)
3. 4-Sight Test
Homework/Classwork (15-20
per marking period) 3 pts. each
* All
tests can be retaken if you choose. Retakes must be retaken during 7th period no later than 1
week after the first exam has been returned. When you retake a test, the highest score is counted towards your
grade. Students may retake an exam at
anytime regardless of the grade, but I do expect all tests with scores lower
than an 80 to be retaken.
Tools for Success
~ Be
prepared for class. Bring
your book and notebook, do your homework and make your best effort. (Binders or folders as well as
scientific calculators are recommended. Pencils
are required for assignment completion, tests, and quizzes.)
~ Assignments
and test and quiz dates will be posted on my school web page under the
Assignments link for each class.
~
Don't be afraid to ask questions. Appropriate
participation is always welcomed. Inappropriate
behavior, on the other hand, is not and will be dealt with accordingly.
~ When
absent on a quiz/test day, the quiz/test will be administered upon returning to
school. Grace periods are
based on the amount of days absent from class. Failure to do so by the end of the
grace period will result in a zero unless alternate arrangements have been
made.
~ If
you are caught copying classwork or homework or cheating on any quizzes or
tests, a zero will automatically be awarded.
~ The
only extra credit available is by retaking tests.
~ All
school rules as stipulated in the student handbook will be strictly followed.
~ If
needed, additional help is available in the library during your study hall
periods as well as in room 211 during 7th period, by appointment. Please alert me if you are planning on
staying after school.
* In
order to be successful in math class, one needs to practice and review
concepts. This is the
purpose of homework/classwork assignments. All assignments are expected to be
completed for the following class. Failure
to complete an assignment in its entirety earns you a zero for that
assignment. No late work
will be accepted. You will
be given one free pass per marking period for use on any missed homework
assignment.
To Contact Me
~ I
strongly recommend that any student or parent who wishes to contact me to do so
using the email address above. Although
you may leave a message through the school’s voicemail system, I will be able
to respond to any question or concern much quicker if you use my email address.
