Famous Pennsylvanian Project
Research the famous Pennsylvanian that you have been assigned. Then complete
the following:
1. Prepare a research report about your famous Pennsylvanian. It must be
typed. It should be at least one typed page. All grammar rules apply: 5
sentences to a paragraph, indenting, punctuation, topic and closing sentences,
and correct spelling. You should include:
a. birthdate
b. place of birth
c. connection to Pennsylvania
d. important accomplishments
e. any other interesting facts
2. Make a FOAM board poster ( 22” x 28” ). Be creative. Make sure you
display the person’s name and picture as well as facts about the person’s
life. Neatness counts. Use craft materials to give your poster some depth.
Take your time and create a poster that you are proud to display. It should
be obvious that a 4th grade student created this poster. BRING TO SCHOOL IN A
LARGE PLASTIC TRASH BAG.
3. Prepare a one minute speech. You are to speak as if you ARE the famous
Pennsylvanian. (Example: Hello. My name is Benjamin Franklin. I’d like to
tell you a little about my life. . . . ) Your speech should be memorized, but
you may make a set of index cards that you can use while you are presenting.
Practice giving your speech in front of your parents and in front of a mirror.
Remember to speak clearly, loudly, slowly, and make eye contact with your
audience. You will be presenting the speech to our class and then to our
invited guests at our PA Day to be held on Friday, January 27, 2012 in the
Raphael Room at 9:00 AM sharp.
4. Design a costume. You are to dress up like your famous Pennsylvanian.
Make sure you don’t have a mask or anything covering your eyes or mouth. Also,
be sure you can stand and sit comfortably in your costume! You will present
your speech in costume at our PA Day.
Have fun with this project! Become an expert on the life of your famous
Pennsylvanian. Make your report interesting and your speech entertaining!
You will be graded on each component of this assignment. Don’t be late! Late
projects will lose one letter grade for each day they are late. (Example: An
A project will become a B if it is one day late.)
