We started our day making our new mystery letter Ff out of clay.  We then tried to make hearts out of clay, too.  We found math games on our computers that counted hearts.  A great choice for today.  We met the whole school in the gym and made breakfast bags for the homebound. These bags will be given to Aid for Friends.  We talked about sharing our hearts with those in need.  What smiles our friends will have when they open their breakfast bags and read the Valentines Day cards we made for them.  Yesterday, we learned about Abraham Lincoln.  We read a book about how he helped the slaves become free.  We saw him on the penny and five dollar bill.

    February 10, 2012
The Pre-K has been busy working this week.  Our mystery letter Jj went into our journals.  We made jars and put stickers in them. We counted our stickers.  We practiced estimating as we filled a jar with marbles and tried to guess how many were inside.  We began talking about Abraham Lincoln.  We will be talking about the presidents in the weeks to come.  It's all about Valentine's Day now.  We decorated our Valentine's Day bags and can't wait to fill them.  We made a super bulletin board for the hallway about our friends.  Our religion lessons are focusing on our families and how we show love each and everyday.

    February 1, 2012
We used stamp pads and stamps to create our mystery letter when we arrived this morning.  All of us  took turns making beautiful water colors.  They are hanging in the room.  Our calendar was changed to February.  We marked important dates and counted how many days until Valentines Day.  We put our February books in our book corner and read about the groundhog.   Will the groundhog see his shadow?  We casted our votes during morning message.  Tomorrow we will see who the winner is.  We colored our groundhogs so we will be ready for his big day.  We made patterns with our unifix cubes and challenged a friend to copy it on the magnetic board.  What a day!!!!!

    January 31, 2012
The last day of January.  We are experts at counting to 31.  We practiced writing our name on special colored paper.  This helps us to learn how to position our letters on the lines.  We did a great job.  We classified and grouped snowmen at morning meeting.  Each of us held a snowman and we had to listen for his characteristics and stand when we heard about the one we were holding.  We had outside play on this beautiful day.  We worked in small groups with Mrs. Kruise and Mrs. Shields and practiced sequencing pictures.  We used our verbal skills to talk about our pictures.

    January 30, 2012
The letter Vv went into our journal this morning.  Vv is for vest.  We made patterns on our vests before we glued them into our books. Our morning meeting began with counting and thinking of things we like to do in school each day.  After Music and snack we played a game with snowballs.   We had to pick them up with a spoon and count them.  We made sets to ten.  Then we got to throw them in a snowball fight.  Our new mystery letter arrived.  The letter Jj will teach us how to jump, jive, and jitterbug!!!!!.

    January 26, 2012
We practiced writing our names first thing this morning.  Each day we are getting better.  We are working hard in the computer lab.  Mrs. Skelly helped us make our mystery letter Vv.  At morning meeting we reviewed our letters and found pictures to match their sounds.  We finished our penguins and hung them on a huge block of ice in the hallway.  During our religion lesson we learned how Jesus got lost in the temple.  Our booklet was about the things Jesus like to do with Mary and Joseph when he was a little boy.  We  hammered just like Jesus did in the carpenter shop.

    January 25, 2012
We traveled to the Arctic today and yesterday to learn about the polar bear.  We learned what they eat, where they live and how they spend their days.  We measured ourselves against a polar bear .  We acted out how polar bears break the ice to catch fish and how they hide in the snow waiting to catch their dinner.  We played a listening game and counted the bears on our paper.  The letter Vv pictures didn't  stump us at morning meeting.  Our verbal skills were the best when we played "In the World I See......".  Our gym class was interrupted with a fire drill.  We are masters of getting out of the building quickly and safely.   What a day!!!!

We have mastered that letter and are ready to move on.  Our morning meeting began practicing the concept of between.  We put our numbers from 1 to 20 on the floor and waited to be told what number we needed to find.  We are doing great recognizing our numbers.  We continued our Winter Animal Unit by pretending we were Emperor penguins.  We carried large eggs between our legs just like the mommy and daddy penguins do.  It was great fun.  Our math skills were tested as we compared and contrasted the sizes of 6 different penguins.  The smallest is the Fairy penguin and the largest is the Emperor penguin.  Our unifix cubes helped us build lines the length of each penguin.  We counted how big each line was.  We were able to count as high as 49!!!!!!

    January 18, 2012
Hooray!!!  We were all back today.  We signed in on the smartboard and got right to work.  We look turns painting with water colors to make beautiful designs.  We greeted each other at morning meeting with big smiles.  We pointed to the feelings chart and let everybody know how we were feeling this morning.  We were happy, tired, surprised to be back at school.  We took a trip to the South Pole after Gym.  We learned about the many different penguins there are.  Penguins can be big and small.  They are great swimmers and they have two kinds of feathers.  We had a penguin parade.
