PRE-K PROGRAM

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

PRIMARY GOAL

Our Pre-K program stresses the development of the whole child.  While responding to each student’s learning style, it is our goal to help your child grow spiritually, socially, emotionally, and intellectually.  Using hands on activities, students will build skills in literacy, math, science, social studies, technology, and the arts.

In keeping with the Grey Nun Academy Philosophy, each child will learn decision-making skills, conflict resolutions techniques, and respect for our environment.

Pre-K Curriculum

Religion- Stories of God’s Love is a religious education program published by RCL, Benzinger.  This program introduces pre-school children to the presence of God in the world around them.  Through stories, songs, finger plays, games, prayers and sensory activities, children can realize God’s love for them and how they can share that love in their everyday lives. This program includes a weekly leaflet that teaches the children about our liturgical seasons and Biblical stories of Jesus and His love for others.

Math Readiness

Games, activities, and hands on manipulatives allow each child to develop the following skills:

Identifying and classifying objects

Grouping sets

Comparing and patterning objects

Sequencing three pictures

Recognizing and printing numerals 0 to10

                   Functions independently

                   Displays self-control

Enjoys playing with peers rather than alone

                   Cooperates with peers

                   Cooperates with adults

                   Talks about feelings and emotions

                   Accepts responsibility

Responds appropriately to small group instruction

The Pre-K curriculum is filled with a multi-sensory approach to learning.  The subjects of science, math, reading and social studies are incorporated in each of our lessons.  We explore ourselves, and the world around us using inter-disciplinary themes that are introduced during the course of the year.
