Homework

Second Grade Homework

Spelling
•	Pretest corrections are always due the day after the pretest.
Corrections are to be written 2 times each in the space provided on the
pretest paper.
•	ABC order is due on Wednesday, unless noted otherwise.
•	S.O.S. means a Sentence of Seven words or more. These are due on
Thursday, unless noted otherwise.
•	Sentences must be numbered.
•	Spelling word must be underlined.
•	Each sentence must begin on a new line.
•	Sentences should begin with a capital letter and have a punctuation
mark at the end.
•	Spelling tests are on Friday, unless noted otherwise.

Math
•	Pages will be assigned in the Homework Workbook as skills are
introduced.
•	Addition and subtraction facts must be practiced daily. Flash cards
are a wise investment.

Reading
•	The Reading folder will usually come home on Friday. Inside are
phonics word lists and an index of high-frequency words and vocabulary for
the upcoming story in Language Arts. The words will be marked off and must
be read a few times over the weekend and initialed by a parent. These words
may be put onto index cards and used as flash cards at home as well. The
folder must be returned on Monday, (if it comes home Friday), or the day
after it is sent home. (i.e.: goes home Monday, comes back Tuesday)
•	Book reports are a weekly assignment. Try to choose a book that
hasn’t been read before. The book report form will come home on Friday and
the report is always due by the following Friday. (1 week later)

Homework Hints
•	Parents, please sign ALL homework.
•	A missed homework is excused only with a note from home. (My dog ate
it, or my mom/dad forgot to put it in my folder are NOT excused!)
•	Parents will be notified of a late assignment with a pink homework
slip that has the assignment written on it and in some cases, what’s missing
will be attached. These slips must be signed by the parent and the child
and returned with the completed assignment.
•	After 3 missing or late assignments, the consequence is a missed
recess.
•	By holding the children accountable for their actions we are
teaching them to be responsible and strengthening their independence.

Other subjects will have assignments. There will either be a form in the
take-home folder or a note explaining the assignment. Please feel free to
come to us if you have any questions or concerns!
