What's Happening in 2-B!

Happy Monday and Happy Valentine's Day a little early!  I posted our class list for Valentines...see the tab to the left.  If you need a hard copy please let me know.
STUDENTS WILL BE RETESTED ON MONEY THIS FRIDAY.
2-B is also participating in the Robo's Readers Program from February 1-15.
Students have to read 10 books by 2/15...this Wednesday. Congratulations to Stephen, Michael, Brooke, Jocelyn, Amanda, Kelley, Madison, Maddison, & Jacob for reading their 10 books. All children who achieve the 10 book goal will receive 2 hockey tickets to see the W-B Penguins play. :o)
I registered 2-B for "Read the Most From Coast to Coast" on March 2. This is a national "challenge" with schools across America to take part in a goal to shatter the one-day record for AR Quiz-taking.

Cursive: We have finished the lower-case alphabet and started the upper -case letters. Students should complete ABC order spelling homework in cursive.
Students did a fantastic job making snowflakes and writing cinquain poetry. Snowflakes and poems are displayed on our bulletin board.
We will be following a different reading schedule when we start Book 2. I've written up the schedule and will sent it home. I posted the schedule on the website too. If any changes need to be made, I'll make them online and notify the class.  We will only be reading story 4 & 5 from Unit 4. We will start Unit 4 with an animal unit. Students will read about an animal in differentiated groups of three students for a week. They will create a trading card for that animal, as well as begin an expository paragraph about that animal. Students will select an animal of their choice for the second week of study. They will create another trading card and add a 2nd paragraph to their paper about the new animal. Students will continue their research paper by including a 3rd paragraph comparing the two animals, a 4th paragraph contrasting both animals and end the report with a reflection paragraph. Animals in the unit are whales, sharks, ants, sea turtles, bats, snakes, penguins and frogs. Students will bring home the animal book they are reading each night to read and review. Books will be tested. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at any time.

Megan
is 2-B's Star of the Week. 2-B looks forward to learning more about her.
Tis the season for colder temperatures. Please be sure your child is dressed for the weather. Students are outside for 30-40 minutes each day.
Students should continue to practice their addition/subtraction facts so they know them "snappity-snap". 2-B is subtracting 2 & 3 digit numbers in math. Periodically review the strategies taught throughout Chapter 3.
3rd quarter AR has started. Goal achievers in the 3rd marking period will enjoy a pizza party and homemade cookies.
