Extra Credit

An extra credit opportunity is offered to all of my seventh and
eighth grade reading and English students. Following are the guidelines
which the students MUST follow in order to receive extra credit points.

1. Students choose an Accelerated Reader book within his/her ZPD Range (to
be determined after the STAR Reading Assessment) and have it approved by
Mrs.
Tanner BEFORE reading the book.
2. Students may choose up to two books per grading period.
3. Students have until the last day of the grading period to complete all
extra credit work.
4. After reading the book, students must complete the following:

     A. Students take an Accelerated Reader test. This test MUST be
taken in the presence of Mrs. Tanner. Students must pass the
test with a 70% or better to receive the extra credit. The extra
credit points assigned will depend upon how well the student
          performs on the test.

          If a student earns . . . He/She will receive . . .

                        100% 20 points
                         95% 19 points
                         90% 18 points
                         85% 17 points
                         80% 16 points
                         75% 15 points
                         70% 14 points

     B. Students must complete a graphic organizer which Mrs. Tanner
will have available in her classroom.

     C. Students must complete a book log that shows a record of time
         spent reading the book.
