An extra credit opportunity is offered to all of my seventh and
eighth grade reading and English students. Following are the guidelines
which the students MUST follow in order to receive extra credit points.
1. Students choose an Accelerated Reader book within his/her ZPD Range (to
be determined after the STAR Reading Assessment) and have it approved by
Mrs.
Tanner BEFORE reading the book.
2. Students may choose up to two books per grading period.
3. Students have until the last day of the grading period to complete all
extra credit work.
4. After reading the book, students must complete the following:
A. Students take an Accelerated Reader test. This test MUST be
taken in the presence of Mrs. Tanner. Students must pass the
test with a 70% or better to receive the extra credit. The extra
credit points assigned will depend upon how well the student
performs on the test.

B. Students must complete a graphic organizer which Mrs. Tanner
will have available in her classroom.
C. Students must complete a book log that shows a record of time
spent reading the book.
EVERY STUDENT HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO COMPLETE TWO BOOKS FOR EXTRA CREDIT
PER GRADING PERIOD. IN OTHER WORDS, HE OR SHE MAY EARN UP TO 40 EXTRA
CREDIT POINTS PER GRADING PERIOD IN LANGUAGE ARTS.
PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT THIS EXTRA CREDIT IS SEPARATE FROM THE TWO
REQUIRED BOOKS STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE FOR A GRADE IN LANGUAGE ARTS.
