For Parents

Mrs. Greathouse will be teaching the General Music classes for Grades
K5-8 with Mrs. Kostial at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center every Thursday
and Friday afternoon. My new web site will be:
               http://www.teacherweb.com/pa/midland/jgreathouse
The Accelerated Reading Program (AR) will continue this year under the
leadership of Mrs. Tanner. Students will select a book from the AR booklist
that is at their reading level. When they finish the book, he/she will take
a 5, 10 or 20 question, multiple-choice test on a computer. The test
evaluates the students' comprehension/knowledge about that book. When the
test is completed, the computer immediately reveals how many questions were
answered correctly. It then awards reading points based on the book's
length, reading level and the number of correct answers. Individual
recognition and prizes are awarded at the end of each week. Every child has
the opportunity to participate in this program. The AR Program has had a
great impact on motivating our students to read more books as well as better
quality books. Students will read for individual as well as homeroom
incentives. Now that my homeroom students are in grade 5, they will have an
opportunity to earn a free admission ticket to Kennywood that may be used on
Midland's school picnic day in May. The admission ticket is valid during
other days of the summer, but restrictions may apply. The class that earns
the most points at the end of APRIL will receive an ice cream sundae party.
This year I am also teaching 5th & 6th grade Social Studies. If you
have any questions concerning your child's grade or conduct, you may contact
me at the school between 2:45-3:30 P.M. at (724)643-8650. Parent
conferences are held monthly and we can set up a time which is convenient
for the both of us to discuss any issues. Please be sure to check your
child's planner for any daily assignments, tests, or teacher comments.
Thank you for your interest in your child's success.
