MEMORIAL DAY - NO SCHOOL
TUESDAY - MAY 26, 2009:
Begin reading lessons which the students have selected as "topics of
interest" from the textbook. Today's assignment is Chapter 8, Lesson 5 "The
Allies Win the War" on page 331. Be sure to go over terms: fronts, D-day,
Holocaust, island-hopping, Communism, free world and cold war.
Answer "review" questions on pages 333, 334, 336, 338, 339 and the 4
questions from page 339 "Lesson 5 Review".
WEDNESDAY - MAY 27, 2009:
Begin reading Chapter 9 "The Cold War Years" on page 358; Lesson 1 -
"The Cold War Begins" on page 359. Go over terms: superpowers, airlift,
missile and arms race. Discuss review questions on pages 361, 362, 364 (2),
and 365 in addition to the "Lesson 1 Review" (#1-4) on page 365.
THURSDAY - MAY 28, 2009: (single period)
1/2 DAY - Early Dismissal (11:30 A.M. for Middle School)
KENNYWOOD DAY - students will leave the school at 10 A.M. for Kennywood.
Continue reading Chapter 9, Lesson 2 "One Giant Leap" on pages 366-371.
Answer the "Literature Review" (#1-3) on page 371.

D.A.R.E. GRADUATION PROGRAM (Grade 5) - 9:00 A.M.

Students will learn the states/capitals by playing "Social Studies"
Bingo. Use the regular directions such as vertically, horizontally,
diagonally, four corners, postage stamp, big/little diamond, or picture
frame. Winners will receive a piece of candy - one winner @ round.
TUESDAY - JUNE 2, 2009:
Continue "Social Studies" Bingo, but use different information about the
states like the "nickname". Winners will receive a piece of candy - one
winner @ round.
WEDNESDAY - JUNE 3, 2009: AWARDS DAY

THURSDAY - JUNE 4, 2009: EARLY DISMISSAL - 8th GRADE PROMOTION
