6th Grade Summer Reading

6th Grade Summer Reading List

Sixth Graders entering the Midland Borough School District will be required
to read two books during the summer. One book will be the student’s choice
from the list below, and will have a book report written for it due on the
first day of school. The book report format is attached. The other book
that all sixth graders are required to read is Sixth Grade Can Really Kill
You by Barthe DeClements. It will be discussed and tested the first day of
school. These books can be found at the Carnegie Library in Midland, or
may be purchased by the student.

Phantom Tollbooth- Norton Juster
Walk Two Moons- Sharon Creech
A Wrinkle in Time- Madeleine L’Engle
Island of the Blue Dolphin- Scott O’Dell
Number the Stars- Lois Lowry
Out of the Dust- Karen Hesse

It is very important for students to continue to read over the summer
months. This not only prepares them for the up coming school year, but also
prevents any loss of what they have learned the previous school year. It is
my hope to prevent this by requiring summer reading. If you have any
questions please feel free to contact me at the school or via e-mail.

Thank you,
