Curriculum

Curriculum
Religion - 6th Grade
The major focus of the sixth grade curriculum is the Old Testament.  The 
theme of the liturgical year, Mary, prayer and saints are taught in 
conjunction with the major theme (Hebrew Scripture).  Each class will begin 
with prayer, the biography of a saint and prayer journal writing.  The 
students will be preparing for Confirmation, which they will receive in the 
spring.

Integrated Language Arts - 6th Grade
The sixth grade curriculum includes Literature and Writing, Speaking and 
Listening, Sentence Structure, Spelling, and Vocabulary.  Grammar and 
Creative Writing will be taught in accordance with the Archdiocese 
Guidelines in both content and time allotment.

Reading - 6th Grade
The sixth grade curriculum includes strategic reading, reading 
comprehension, guided reading, small group discussion and critical thinking 
activities.  Students will be using either the Literature textbook or trade 
novel throughout the year. 

Science - 6th Grade
The material covered will be in accordance with the Archdiocesan Guidelines 
and not necessarily by each chapter in the book.  The sixth grade curriculum 
in an overview, covering Earth Science in the first trimester, Physical 
Science in the Second Trimester and Life Science in the third trimester.  
The curriculum also includes laboratory work and reading comprehension 
within content area.

Science - 7th Grade
The material covered will be in accordance with the Archdiocesan Guidelines 
and not necessarily by each chapter in the book.  The seventh grade 
curriculum covers Life Science and consists of studies of Biology, 
Microbiology, Human Body Systems, Botany and Ecology.  The curriculum also 
includes laboratory work and reading comprehension within content area.

Science - 8th Grade
The material covered will be in accordance with the Archdiocesan Guidelines 
and not necessarily by each chapter in the book.  The eighth grade 
curriculum covers Earth Science and consists of studies of Geology, 
Oceanography, Astronomy, Energy and Meteorology.  The Curriculum also 
includes laboratory work and reading comprehension within content area.

Assessment
Students will be assessed by the following for each marking period:
1.  Major test grades
2.  Quizzes equating to a single test grade in Science.
3.  Copybook grade equating to a single test grade in ILA.
4.  Maintenance Sheets in ILA
5.  Book Reports in Reading which will equate to a test grade.
6.  Reading Comprehension in Content Area in Science and Religion which will 
    equate to a single test grade.
7.  Lab Reports in Science which will equate to a single test grade.
8.  Study Guides in 7th & 8th grade Science which will equate to a test grade
