Math

 October 26, 2009

Dear Parents,

Starting today I am providing my Math Class with practice work from Math Drops in the Bucket, a math review book that provides independent review and practice of the most commonly taught and tested math topics.  I am giving the class 4 pages to do each week.  They are to be turned in on Friday and they will receive EXTRA CREDIT towards their Math Grade.

Hopefully with the repeated practice the students will reinforce their skills, building competence and confidence each day.

If for any reason you do not want your child to do this extra credit work, please send me a signed note stating that.

Thank you for your continued support.

Be sure to drill addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. Try these websites:

www.aaamath.com

www.kidsmath.com

Our school has chosen the First in Math website as a means of gaining practice in math skills. This site is available to us through a grant from Verizon until June. There's no software to install. Go to www.firstinmath.com Each student has their own User ID and Password. Click GO, then clickGo on Progress page. You are now on your Player Home Page. Click a Skill Set Game, GYM or Bonus Game to begin! The top sets of problems are harder so scroll down to set 1 on the bottom and practice then move up to set 2. The HELP section gives information about scoring, rankings, math content, and troubleshooting.

PARENTS, Log on as a VISITOR and browse the Parents section.

The students are really enjoying this. They work on it at recess (rainy days) and during Math class if we have extra time. I also showed them some other Math games I have on CD. All types of practice is beneficial.
