This information was revised September 2011. It will be provided in hard
copy and explained to all Math 7 and 8 students. This is provided for
parental reference.
HOMEWORK POLICY
Written and/or studied homework is usually assigned nightly. It is
expected that assignments will be complete and ready when you arrive in
class. Homework reinforces what you have learned in class. If you
experience difficulty with your homework, you should see me in the morning
BEFORE school, so I can help you or arrange a time to do so. Only then
will, "I didn't understand it" be an acceptable excuse for missing and/or
incomplete homework. Homework and other assessment information are posted on
my web page at teacherweb.com. I make every effort to list assignments
daily, however, it is also your responsibility to copy homework assignments
down in class in the unlikely event it is not posted on the web site.
All assessment grades as well as running homework and maintenance averages
are posted on rvsgradebook.com web site. Should a parent's signature be
required on a specific assessment, it is also part of your homework
responsibility to have it signed. The first night tests are returned is
a "grace" night - no penalty for forgetting. The next night is a "miss", and
you will be penalized. The third night will warrant a demerit.
Each student begins the marking period with a score of "100" for
homework. The first three misses collectively each trimester will merit only
a one point penalty. After that, missing and incomplete assignments will
incur the following penalties.
Missing Homework - 5 Points
Incomplete Homework - 3 Points
Incomplete/Late Maintenance Sheet - 5 Points
Unsigned Assessments - 2 points
At the end of each marking period, these points are totaled and subtracted
from 100 to achieve a homework grade.
MAINTENANCE SHEET POLICY
Weekly maintenance sheets are graded and averaged separately. If a
maintenance sheet is incomplete or forgotten, you will receive a 5 point
homework deduction and be allowed a one-day grace period to
hand it in. If the sheet is not turned in, you may receive a
zero grade for that sheet. In the case of absence, the maintenance sheet
should be turned in soon after the student returns to school.
ABSENCE
Absence from class may be due to illness, vacations, appointments, high
school visitations, school service, late arrivals, etc. If you are absent
from class for any reason, it is your responsibility to make up all
assignments and assessments missed in a timely fashion. If you miss math
class due to school service or late arrival, homework must be completed and
maintenance handed in on the day due. If you are absent due to illness, you
should receive a homework make up sheet recorded by a classmate for class and
homework assignments missed and/or check the Teacher Web site above for
homework assignment and assessment deadlines. If you have missed a new
lesson, it is your responsibility to copy notes missed and to arrange a
mutually agreeable time with me for a make-up lesson.
PLEASE NOTE: HOMEWORK AND MAINTENANCE SHEETS ARE RUNNING AVERAGES THAT WILL
BE UPDATED PERIODICALLY ON RVS GRADE BOOK THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER. PARENTS
PLEASE CONTACT THE SCHOOL OFFICE IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR PASSWORD. BECAUSE
GRADES ARE POSTED ON GRADE BOOK, SIGNATURES ON ASSESSMENTS WILL NOT ALWAYS
BE REQUIRED. STUDENTS WILL REVIEW ASSESSMENTS IN CLASS, AND THEY WILL BE
KEPT IN SCHOOL. PARENTS MAY REQUEST TO SEE ASSESSMENTS AT ANY TIME.
