Technology Vocabulary

It is important for students to understand specific technological terms in
order for them learn and benefit from my classroom instruction. The
Archdiocese of Philadelphia technology curriculum committee provides a list
of about 200 terms that I use to make sure that the students have the
knowledge to understand my discussions and instruction in the use of
specific software (Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel spreadsheets, and
Access database management system).

Terms are taught from 5-word "weekly" lists (the complete list is
available on the "Study Notes" page from my Home Page or the top of this
page). Students are expected to know and understand each term and
definition. Students in grades 4 and 5 will be taught five words
approximately every other week, and will be quizzed on words from a list.
Given the definition, the students must be able to select the correct term
(word) from a 20-word word bank. The vocabulary quiz is a computer-based,
self-grading program. Words missed, and the correct word, will be displayed
to the student at the end of the quiz and students have been advised that
they should note, in their copy book, the word missed so that the student
can review those missed words prior to the next quiz. Each quiz contains ten
word selected from all words students have learned during the year to date
so students must be familiar with all of the words they have studied.

It is recommended that parents regularly review their student's technology
copy book and assist the students in reviewing the words so they are
prepared for future tests. Grades will be recorded in RVS Gradebook for
parents' review by the day following each quiz.
