Math 7 & 8 Overview

Curriculum

The seventh and eighth grade mathematics programs adhere to the Mathematics Guidelines of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Office of Catholic Education. They are comprehensive, well-balanced, integrated, guidelines that fully detail the required concepts and skills for each level. Each class will complete the level corresponding to its appropriate grade. This is Algebra Readiness Level 1 for grade 7 and Algebra Readiness Level 2 for grade 8.

Assessment

Students will be tested frequently over the course of each marking period. This helps the students to study more regularly. Students will know about tests and quizzes in advance and are encouraged to study because math tests at this level usually encompass a nimber of different concepts. In addition to testing students' mastery of concepts and applications, their knowledge and use of formulas and terminology will be tested as welll as well as these are important to their understanding of mathematics at this level. Each trimester, students will also be assessed on their ability to keep a neat, organized and complete notebook, on individual math projects, on in classroom cooperative learning assignemnts and on homework and maintenance.
