How can I best help my child be successful in your class?

Go over the papers they bring home each day with them. Talk to them about concepts they don't
understand, and help them, if possible. Check their backpack/agenda for unfinished homework.
Most third graders are very reluctant to bring work home. They need to begin to understand that
homework is useful, and it will help them do well in school.

Does my child have to participate in the Book-It program?

Yes. Independently reading is the best way for your child to move forward in their reading
development. Take time to read with your child, and enjoy the books they are reading. That way
you can talk to them about the characters they meet in books and help them understand what they
read.

How do I know what my child has for homework?

Check backpacks for loose papers. Look in student's agendas. Hopefully, they will write down their
assignment, but if time runs out they may only have time to put it in their backpack.
