I have taught kindergarten, preschool, Title reading and third grade. Third
grade is by far my favorite! Eight and nine year olds are definitely among
the most amazing people on the planet. Third grade is a year full of
milestones, such as learning to multiply and write in cursive.
I love creating a learning atmosphere that allows children to feel safe to
take risks and advance academically. Reading has always been a passion of
mine, and I share that with my children. Reading is a critical part of
succeeding in the workplace today. I earned my Elementary Education
undergraduate degree from Edinboro University, as well as my Reading
Specialist certification and a Master's of Reading Education degree.
Away from school I enjoy my two married daughters and their spouses, as well
as my best friend and husband, Mark. I love to play golf, go jogging, and
cheer for the Pittsburgh Penguins (my
favorite sports team). I have three young grandsons who have captured my heart!
Students need multiple opportunities to understand new concepts, presented in
various manners and with different materials to meet all learning styles. I
try to provide a safe, warm environment where children can feel confident that
they will be cheered on as they attempt tomaster third grade ideas.
Children learn at different rates, and that's okay. To be successful in life,
you need to press on and keep on trying. As Nancy Crawford, a former NWE
teacher, often said, "Smart kids ask questions." Every question is welcomed
in my class. We celebrate each new day and all the challenges that come with it.
