Dear Parents:
Welcome to first grade. To help us begin this new school year, I
would like to list a few helpful hints and reminders.
PERSONAL BELONGINGS:
Please be sure your child’s name is marked on all his/her
belongings, such as school bags, lunch boxes, jackets, sweaters and all gym
clothes. Many of the items look alike, so this is very important.
SUPPLIES:
Each child should have a school bag, lunch bag and pencil case with
at least two sharpened pencils. Also, I will be collecting $9.00 from each
student for 6 copybooks. These items will be available the first day of
school.
TAKE HOME FOLDERS:
This folder is sent home daily and may contain important notes or
information. Please check this folder every day. Also, any notes or
important papers for the office or me should be put into this folder. Any
money sent into school should be in an envelope with your child’s name, room
number, and reason for the money.
HOMEWORK:
Each week your child will receive a homework sheet detailing assignments for
the week. This sheet will be glued into the “H” copybook on Monday of that
week. The homework will also be updated each week on the OLHC web site.
Also, I will list any reminders or other important information. If your
child is doing more than 30 minutes a night please let me know.
LUNCH AND SNACK:
We will have a short recess and snack time each morning. I ask you
to please send one small healthy snack for your child to eat at this time.
Also, if there is any food item your child cannot have for any reason, please
let me know. If your child will be celebrating a birthday and you would like
to send in a treat, something small like cookies or munchkins work great. If
your child will be ordering the hot lunch, please have the order in by the
due date, as these lunches need to be ordered in advance.
DISMISSAL:
Please inform me if your child is to be dismissed in the car rider,
walker or bus line. Your child will always be dismissed by this means of
transportation unless I have a handwritten note from you stating otherwise.
Please also advise me if your child will be attending CARES and the days they
will be attending. The safety of your is very important to me.
ABSENT NOTES:
If your child is absent for any reason, I need to have a note upon
his/her return to school stating the reason for the absence.
VOLUNTEERS:
We are in need of parent volunteers in first grade. If you can help
with one of these very important jobs, check the attached form and return to
me as soon as possible.
Just a reminder Tuesday September 13th is Back To School Night. I
look forward to meeting you that night.

contact me and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

_____COMPUTER Friday afternoons
We will also have Green Thumb on Thursday. This program runs for four weeks
in the fall and about ten weeks in the spring. This program is a great hands-
on program, which will give the children the opportunity to learn about
planting. There is a specific plan to follow; therefore I would need someone
to coordinate the material and present to the class and a few people willing
to help.
If you would like more information about these programs, please let me
know. Anyone interested in helping with any of these volunteer programs
please let me know as soon as possible.
