Calendar Template
GRADE 5:
Endangered Species Research and Poster - due February 13th
Students will receive project outline and begin research and collection of data for the construction of an endangered species poster.
Students will have 3 class periods to complete research at school by February 3rd.
Classification Charts in Kidspiration
Concept Mapping will be discussed. Kidspiration using the drag and drop feature for shapes and images will be instructed. Menu and Library of images are discussed. Concept charts will be constructed in class for Herbivore, Carnivore and Omnivore. Students will need to link and label 5 species to each type classification. Student will print the map for Grading.
Bibliography for 5th Graders
Students receive handout and also do a keyword search at "Google" on "Fifth Grade Bibliography" to find the resource page online. Discussions are presented to stress getting information for their project from a variety of resources. Each type of resource is defined and reviewed with the students for proper citing and the requirement of a "Works Cited Page" for the Endangered Species Poster.
Calendar using a Template
Students learn about the use of a template design as an organized space. Students find the free tools available on Microsoft Office online and browse different type of templates available for each version of Office. The multi-variety of templates from Invitations to Flyers to Calendars are discussed.
Students download the yearly Calendar template Clasic Blue (2003) from the link supplied above.
Students manipulate the Calendar to their design standards and color choices. Importing/resizing grapics, entering new event dates, and shading of cells are instructed step by step to allow students to change the calendar pertaining to their school and social lives. Header and Footers are inserted for Name. Printing using option for pages 1 - 2 is turned in for Grading.

GRADE 6: Black History Timeline and Internet Research
Students will research in class 9 Historical figures and 3 to 6 Contemporary figures for a Black History Timeline
Dates for Historical : < 1860's to 1970
Dates for Contemporary: 1970 - 2012
Students will visit Mrs. Knezo's Links page and use the Black History Research sites as a starting point for their research.
Criteria is discussed: 5 periods must be covered in their research and timeline
< 1860's, 1860's to 1940's, 1940's to 1970's, 1970's to 2000, and 2001 - 2012. Student will research prominent Inventors, Freedom of Slavery, Civil Rights Movement, Breaking Racial Barriers, and Black History Figures who have made a mark in Athletics, Entertainment, or Sciences.
Research is presented in a Powerpoint Timeline. Students will DRAW a tool bar and copy/paste to multiple slides for insertion of data. All dates must be in chronological order.
Timeslines must include Date of Reference, The Black History figures Full Name, and their contribution to Society and how they affected CHANGE!
Black History Road Show
Student names will be drawn from a hat to present to the classrooms of PJPII. Three students per group will travel to classrooms to present their timeslines using the teacher station and projectors to the lower grade students. Mrs. Knezo will setup schedule of presentations. 6th grade students will do a question/answer period following the presentations.
World Math/Spell/Science Challenge
Students will be given login information to compete in the World Math/Spell/Science Challenges for the dates of March 6-8. Students will practice the month of February competing with Students from all over the world. Perspective is gained on time zones and cultural differences. Students will work from Level 1 to Level 5 competing up to 50 challenges on Game Days in concentrated areas of Math, Spelling and Science. Participation levels, difficulty of challenges and length of usage will determine participants grade for Technology.
GRADE 7:
Catholic Schools Week Essay: "Why I value a Catholic Education"
Students will use the 5 steps of Writing by beginning with creation of an Inspiration Diagram on Brainstorming using the 2012 Catholic Schools Week Logo of Faith, Academics, Service.
Students will then Setup a 250 plus word Essay on the topic using their brainstorming ideas.
Students will import the logo for the top of their Essay and also use the Thesaurus to enhance their vocabulary choices for this essay. Spell Check and Print a Good Copy.
Week 2: Students will peer edit and comment on at least two other students writing. Students will finalize their writings and Print for display Open House. Graded by Word Count in Technology, ELA grade given by Teacher.
Presidential Poster and Research Sheet
Students are given the Presidential Internet Research Page. Students will pick a president and complete the handout for Grading.
Students then choose Word or Powerpoint to create a poster either in portrait or landscape. Students include Title of President Name, Picture and 10 or more facts in bulleted phrase style.
Some examples of Facts: List year served, How old when elected president, Biographical information, presidents greatest accomplishments while in office and any other interesting facts on the presidency.
Colonial Business Card
Students will begin Internet research using www.whps.org/school Colonial Occupations website and receive a list of common english surnames to make their selection to the trade/craft they wish to adopt. Discussion continues with the Places of Settlement and where exactly their business will be located. Finally, students will adopt a "Slogan" for their business.
Students will create a Business Card with original created logo imported using their adopted "Colonial English Surname" and Microsoft Publisher. Text and image layout are graded on balance, spelling and creativity. Place of Settlement listed correctly and slogan/logo present.
GRADE 8:
Volcano GLOG
Students will create a Science Glog on ONE Volcano that was researched. Students will include all information from volcano table plus 3 to 5 interesting facts to be presented for a Speaking/Listening Grade in Science.
