Welcome Parents, Students, and Friends to the K to 4 Music Page! From the
first class in September to graduation in June, the sounds of lively music
making can be heard in Pope John Paul II School. The students learn musical
concepts primarily through movement, body percussion, and speech patterns,
which can then be transferred to various instruments. Melodic elements are
extracted from simple folk tunes and other song material and discovered on
the Orff xylophones and melody bells. In addition, students create stories
through song and dramatic play. The boys and girls listen, watch, perform,
and create, demonstrating the power of music to move the human spirit. As a
bonus, the students acquire important life skills through the vehicle of
music. Cooperation, respect, teamwork, confidence, listening, creativity,
critical thinking, and good social skills are all essential ingredients for
producing a quality musical product. All of this is taught with an emphasis
on our Catholic faith and what it means to be a Christian in this world. We
thank God and St. Cecilia for the wonderful gift of music!
