How much time should be spent on homework?
For first grade 30-45 minutes is sufficient. If it is taking more
than that you need to look at when homework is being done. For some
doing homework right after school works. For others, they need play
time and then homework time. You should find what works best for
you, your schedule and your little one!!!
When is Show and Tell?
Show and Tell is held periodically throughout the school year.
It is an important aspect of learning, however, we do not have time
to do Show and Tell every week. Please check homework sheet for the
week to check for Show and Tell.
Can toys be brought to school for recess?
No toys of any kind should be brought to school. We have had
problems in the past with toys being broken or taken. The only time
a toy can be brought to school would be for Show and Tell.
What time does school begin?
Our bell rings at 8:00 a.m. All students should be in school by that time
barring any unusual circumstances. If your child comes in late, a note from
you is required explaining the reason for the child being late.
Can the girls wear colored nailpolish to school?
Only clear nailpolish is permitted to be worn to school.
When is stationery sold?
Stationery is sold on Monday morning. Please send in monedy in envelope
marked with needed stationery, child's name and room number. Thank you!
Are students permitted to wear jewelry to school?
Girls are permitted to wear one pair of small earrings to school.
Boys are not permitted to wear any kind of earring to school.
At what time is a child marked late for school?
Our bell rings, in the morning, at 8:00 a.m. Children coming into school
later than 8:00 are considered "late." Tardiness is recorded on the report
card and will be reflected on the permanent record card at the end of the
school year.
Can the children bring a jump rope to school?
On warm, sunny days the children may bring a jump rope to school.
However, jump ropes can be used at lunch time ONLY!
What kind of socks are the children to wear to school?
With the summer uniform, girls must wear navy blue knee highs.
With the winter uniform, girls must wear navy blue tights.
Boys must wear navy blue socks at all times except on gym day.
On gym day, white socks are acceptable for boys and girls. Only the white
school sneakers may be worn on gym day!
What time does the bell ring for the end of the school day?
The bell rings at 2:45 p.m. for prayer and the end of the school day.
At what time do the first grade children eat lunch?
The first grade children go downstairs to the cafeteria at 11:30.
The children go out to play from 11:45 until 12:00.
