What does BYE stand for?
BYE is our classroom motto. It stands for Best Year Ever. Third
grade will be a fantastic journey, and with your help and mine -
your child is going to have his or her Best Year Ever!
What is the best way to get in touch with you?
During the school day you can either leave me a voicemail or send
me an email. I check both of those during the school day. I can
listen to your voicemail or read your email, but I cannot always
get back to you right away. You can also write a note in your
child's MOOSE BOOK. If you call the school during the school
day, they will put you through to my voicemail because they do
not interrupt classrooms once our day has begun.
What are the prices for lunches this year?
Elementary Lunch $2.00
Secondary Lunch $2.25
Reduced Lunch $.40
Milk $.40
Kindergarten Milk $.10
Breakfast $1.10
Reduced Breakfast $.30
What should I do if my child forgot his or her lunch?
If your child forgot his or her lunch at home, he or she can buy
lunch from one of the three options the cafeteria offers, or you
can drop off the lunch in the office. After you drop off the
lunch, the office will call our room to let us know it is in the
office, and your child can pick it up before we go to lunch.
What should I do if my child forgot work at home?
Most of the time it is okay if your child brings the work in the
next day. You do not have to make a special trip to school to
drop off last night's homework. I understand that things get
misplaced or students forget to bring things with them. It
happens to all of us (including me!) If it happens occasionally -
that is fine. If it happens on a regular basis, we'll have to
meet to come up with a plan to help your child with his or her
organization.
What should I do if I am picking up my child early?
Write a note on a separate piece of paper telling us the time you
will be coming for your child. After I see the note, I'll send
it to the office so they know you will be coming early to pick up
your child. We have a small whiteboard in the classroom for
students to write their names and the times they will be getting
picked up. We often get busy with our activities so the board is
a good reminder of who is getting picked up early. If your child
will be coming back to school that day please tell us in the note.
Please do not come to the room when you are ready to pick up your
child. Go to the office and they will call the room to let us
know you have arrived.
What do I do if my child is going home with a student on a different bus?
You need to send a WRITTEN note on a separate piece of paper so
the office and I know about the change. In your note, write the
name of the other student and what bus number he or she rides.
After I see the note, I'll send it to the office so they can
write up a bus pass for your child. We can't send students on a
different bus unless we have a WRITTEN note from you.
What do I do if my child is going home with another parent?
You need to send a WRITTEN note on a separate piece of paper so
the office and I know about the change. In your note, write the
parent's name and what time your child will be getting picked
up. After I see the note, I'll send it to the office so they
know someone different will be picking up your child. We can't
send students home with another parent unless we have a WRITTEN
note from you.
What will happen if school is closed early because of weather or an emergency situation?
The district will use the rapid notification system to let
parents know that school will be closing early.
The district will also notify local radio and tv stations so they
can air the information as soon as possible.
Please make arrangements with neighbors, friends, or relatives
and let your child know what the arrangements are.
What is a MOOSE BOOK?
MOOSE stands for Management of Organizational Skills Everyday.
The MOOSE is a binder your child will bring home every night and
bring back to school every morning. This is my fourth year using
MOOSE BOOKS and every year they have been a big success. Each
section of the MOOSE is designed to help your child become
organized and more responsible. Third graders are very excited
about taking on more responsibility (even if they won't admit it
to you!)
My child is very excited about writing in cursive. When can he or she start?
It seems like all third graders are eager to write in cursive!
Students learn one letter at a time starting with the lowercase
letters. It takes time to learn 26 lowercase letters and the
strokes needed to form them. Students can practice their
handwriting work in cursive but are not allowed to do their other
work in cursive until they have earned their black belt in
Cursive Karate.
What is Cursive Karate?
Look on the side of our website for a separate page about
Cursive Karate. There you'll find all of the important
information!
