WHAT'S HAPPENING IN ROOM 218?
Greetings to all our families,
I continue to be touched by the kindness the children exhibit toward
one another.
The next two weeks we will be learning about spiders, incorporating
both fiction and non-fiction literature.
In reading groups the children are learning decoding strategies along
with comprehension strategies. They are now familiar with the story
elements; setting, characters, and events. Next week I will be
introducing problem and solution. Miss Odd joined our class this
week to help us learn or review the short o sound. The children now
have short a,i, and o. they also have the following red words that I
hope everyone will soon add to their bank of sight words: the, to,
have,said,of, and was.
In writing workshop we are just about done with our When I was Little
stories. The children are doing a good job using the writing process.
In math this week and next we will focus on story problems using the
strategies: make a picture and make an organized list. I am also
showing the class how to add "number sentences" to go with their
problem solving. We have also started fact families, and I will be
sending home practice papers soon. We are also learning how to
collect data and interpret it through bar graphs and pictographs.
Permission forms for the field trip were sent home on 10/25. If you
have your clearances and would like to be a chaperone, please let me
know.
Fondly,
Veronique Taylor
