FAQ'sFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
Can we help our child to edit his/her spelling on homework assignments? Yes. Your child is encouraged to reread his/her work for accuracy in writing. At this age, there are words that your child will be using that he/she may not spell accurately. Parents can help edit writing at home by using tools such as glossaries, dictionaries, or by looking back at the words in context. Students can also "stretch out" a word and spell it the best that they can. Try your best to encourage your child to use the strategies mentioned above but if all else fails, you can spell the word with them. What are reading calendars and when are they due? Your child is asked to read for at least 20 minutes every night. To help you and your child manage this at home, a monthly calendar will be sent home at the beginning of each month. After your child reads for the day, an adult is asked to sign their initials in the box. On the back of each calendar is a blank book report. Your child is required have the book report completed by the end of the month. Each book report should be written about a book that your child reads at home. Remember, your child is given the whole month to complete the book report so that it doesn't become a huge task at the end of the month! |
