Homework Schedule

Fifth grade students are expected to have homework four nights each week.
Assignments are selected to reinforce concepts presented in class and should
be completed independently. Homework consists of a weekly homework packet
and a nightly reading calendar (located inside the Agenda) called READING
COUNTS. Additional Science and Social Studies homework will be assigned as
needed. Please check your child's Agenda each night to initial the reading
calendar and check assignments.

Math, Language Arts and Spelling homework assignments will be handed out in
a weekly packet each Friday to be returned on or before the following
Thursday. If a child does not return the packet on Thursday, he/she will
stay in at recess to complete the work. Students who return the packet
before Thursday will earn a reward.

Students are also required to read for 20 minutes each night as part of
their regular homework assignment. Please initial the calendar inside your
child's Agenda each night he/she reads. When a student has read for 100
days, he/she will receive a reward. Each marking period, students will also
be required to complete a book report at home on an assigned book. I have
found this program to be a successful way to encourage students to read
daily, thus fostering the development of reading skills and a love of
reading.
