Instructional Assistants:
Mrs. Sestito, the instructional assistant, and I will work together with your child every morning for
reading and language arts. If your son or daughter is in first grade, Mrs. Sestito will also provide
push-in support for math in the regular education classroom. If your son or daughter is in third
grade, Mrs. Gilbert, the instructional assistant, will provide push-in support for math in the regular
education classroom. Lastly, Mrs. Sestito will provide push-in support for second grade math one
day a week.
Reading:
In reading we are working on choosing books that are on their level or
"Just Right Books." Children can choose books on their level by applying
the Five Finger Rule. You can do this by having your child read the first
5 pages or so of their book. Each time they do not know a word have
them put up a finger. If they have all five fingers up by the fifth page,
then the book is too difficult.
Writing:
This month we will talking about the five stages of the writing process
(brainstorming, drafting, editing, revising, and publishing). It is
essential that children understand that writing is an ongoing process.
