I earned my Bachelor's Degree from the University of Delaware with a
dual certification in Elementary and Special Education. In 2001, I earned
my Master's Degree from Wilkes University. This is my ninth year teaching
learning support at Deibler Elementary. I am lucky to work in such a caring
and supportive environment. I also feel very fortunate to have the
opportunity to teach your wonderful children!
When I am not in school, I love playing and coaching soccer. I've
been playing since I was five years old. I even had the opportunity to play
soccer while at Delaware. In 2001, I began directing a summer soccer camp
for girls. I also enjoy rollerblading, scuba diving, and spending time
with my husband and my eight month old son.
I believe that all children can learn. I believe that children learn at
different rates and in different ways. Therefore, as a teacher I will use a
variety of strategies and materials to meet the needs and learning styles of
all of my students.
I believe in establishing an environment of mutual respect in the classroom
between the teacher and the students, as well as between the students.
Mutual respect is essential, because it creates an environment in which
students feel safe to take risks.
Lastly, I hope to instill my own love of learning in my students. I intend
to do this by providing instruction that interests, motivates, engages, and
assesses all learners. I also want to continuously promote self-advocacy,
self-determination, and self-reflection to my students. With these skills,
students will possess the ability to assign meaning to instruction,
comprehend the structure of discipline, and take initiative for
their own learning.
