Foods and Nutrition
This is a hands-on unit for 7th and 8th graders in which students have the
opportunity to prepare foods in cooperative groups. Emphasis will be on
kitchen safety and basic cooking techniques. In addition to food
preparation, the class will also focus on the Food Guide Pyramid and how
to utilize the information to make food choices that support a healthy
lifestyle.
Clothing and Textiles
Each 7th and 8th grade student will create a sewing project from start to
finish in 22 class periods out of the marking period. Upon completion of the
project, the students will have the opportunity to use an embroidery machine
to personalize their project.
This year the students will be making either boxer shorts or pajama pants.
The students will be able to choose from a variety of different fabric
designs in either flannel or a cotton/poly blend. To view the project

on "clothing" then either "boxers and jams" or "pants". The boxer choices
include items 3441, 3442, 3861, and 3862. The pant choices include items
3451, 3452, 3453, 3454, 3456, 3457, 3458, 3459, and 3461.
