 BIG TEAM Little Me

Refuse to Lose

Athletes who refuse to lose soon earn the greatest prize.

They learn to take on anything, regardless of their size.

They learn that there’s no quitting when the game is getting tough.

When the pain and perseverance no longer seem enough.

Refuse to lose.

Character is nothing more than what we think and choose;

It’s the strength we find within ourselves by vowing not to lose.

It’s the act of daring greatly in the face of daunting odds;

It’s a promise to our teammates and a partnership with God.

It’s the courage to prevail, whatever the fortune brings,

When common athletes find the strength to do uncommon things,

Refuse to lose.

The fairest praise good athletes hear, when all is said and done,

Are not the cheers or shouts of joy when games are finally won.

They hear instead an inner voice, frank and unrestrained.

That criticizes how they played or spurs their self-acclaim.

So take the trophies and the plaques and put them on your shelves,

And when you look for character-look within yourselves.

Refuse to lose.
