Attendance and Allergies
Attendance: Please make sure your child is at school every day to learn the most exciting
information. If your child happens to be sick please let the office know and we can send missing
work home with someone.
Allergies: Please send a note to school if your child has any allergies.
Book Orders and Book-It
Book Orders: I will send home a scholastic book order every month with our class newsletter. You
do not have to order from these but if you would like to please make a check payable to Scholastic.
Book-It: In first grade we will participate in a 6 month reading program called book-it. Each child
will read 10 books each month if they choose to participate.
Class Web Page, Communication and Clearances
Class Webpage: We have a class webpage www.spsangelway.org. This should answer most of your
questions. On the webpage you will find a newsflash page. Please register your email. When I send
a newsflash you will receive one.
Communication: There are three basic ways to communicate with the teacher – 1) send a note to
school, 2) call the school and leave a message, 3) email the teacher.
Clearances: Please make sure you have all of your clearances in the school office. You will need
these to volunteer in our classroom.
Dismissal
Dismissal: Please send a note to school with your child to let me know how your child is going home
if there is a change from their regular schedule. I cannot send your child home a different way unless
I have a note.
Emergencies
Emergencies: Please fill out the information form on your child. This will help if there is an
emergency. Also mark on it if your child has any allergies.
Field Trips
Field Trip: First grade usually takes one or two field trips a year. If you would like to be a possible
chaperone you must have all your clearances available in the office.
Gym Clothes
Gym Clothes: Your child may wear their gym uniform all day. Gym Uniform: green shorts, white SPS
shirt and tennis shoes
Homework
Homework: Your child will have about 20 minutes of homework each night.
Important Information
Important Information: Check the website or monthly newsletters for any important information. I will
send occasional notes and newsflashes about important information also.
Jump Rope Swingers
Jump Rope Swingers: We would love to have you help us at recess. Please sign up to come in any day
you are available from 10:40-12:10.
Keep Checking Folders Nightly
Keep Checking Folders Nightly: Check your child’s folder every night. Please empty any work on the
keep at home side. Return any homework.
Lunch Money
Lunch Money: If your child is planning on buying a lunch please make sure their money is in an
envelope with their name on the front. If they have a ticket make sure their name is on the back. At
home help your child decide what they would like for lunch.
Math
Math: In math we work on memorizing basic math facts. We will be using math centers and plenty of
practice. We will be taking holey cards during the second, third and fourth quarters to evaluate our
learning.
Newsletters
Newsletters: I will send out a newsletter each month containing important information for the month.
If you do not receive one ask your child to check their mailbox.
Overdue Library Books
Overdue Library Books: Please make sure your child returns their library book on time each week. If
they forget it please return it the next day with five cents for everyday overdue.
Parties
Parties: We will have a Thanksgiving Feast, a Christmas Party and a Valentine’s Day Party. Our
homeroom moms will help get volunteers for these parties.
Quizzes
Quizzes: In first grade there will be a grammar quiz, a word recall, a reading quiz and a spelling test
each week. Please review your child’s papers nightly with them to help them practice for these.
Rules
Rules: In first grade we are going to have a money reward program for following the rules. Your child
will earn money for good deeds or following the rules. Your child will lose money for breaking the
rules. If your child has a low amount of money left a warning note will be sent home. Every two weeks
the students will have a chance to spend their earned money in our class store.
Spelling Tests
Spelling Tests: Every Friday (4 day week Thursday) we will have a Spelling test. This will contain 6
words from this week and 4 words from previous weeks. Please review words nightly.
Tardiness
Tardiness: Please make sure your child is on time for school everyday. We will have math first period.
If your child is late your child will miss important information and disrupt everyone else’s learning.
Uniforms
Uniforms: Please follow the uniform code in the calendar. We will have uniform reward days the last
day of the month unless otherwise notified. If your child is out of uniform this will be taken away.
Vocabulary Words
Vocabulary Words: Each week we will have 4 or 5 vocab words from our story. These words should be
able to be read not sounded out. Please practice with your child. I will check every Friday to see if
they can read them to me.
Wish List
Wish List: On our webpage and in our newsletters you will find a wish list of items we would love to
have donated to our class. If you would like to donate an item please send it to school with your
child.
X Marks the Spot
X Marks the Spot: Each Monday your child will bring home their test folder. This will contain all of
their tests from the previous week. Please sign all of the tests and go over them with your child. You
may keep the spelling tests but return all others.
You
You: You are a big part of our classroom. We would love to have you volunteer to help us. Notes will
be coming home about volunteer opportunities.
ZZZ
ZZZ: Please make sure that your child gets plenty of zzzzzz’s each night.
