Monday
During the week before a student is Owl of the Week, the green “Sharing Sack” will be sent home with the child. Students have time to collect 3 special items with which to fill the bag at home and bring it back to share with classmates on the Monday of their week. They also should have their completed “All About Me” egg packet on this day ready to discuss and post in the classroom.
Tuesday
Students should complete their owl collage. Students should give the owl a face and personality of his or her own. Please include 6-9 photos of the students’ choice to display on the owl’s stomach and tell the class about. These owls will “fly” in our room for a while and will be returned to you.
Wednesday
The student brings his or her books to read to the class. Students can read the book aloud to the class if it can be read in less than 10 minutes or give a summary book-talk to the class if the book is longer.
Thursday
Parents will write a letter to the class telling us how special your child is to you. Send the letter in a sealed envelope to school with your child, and I will read the letter to the class at morning meeting. The content of the letter is up to you, but you may want to choose from the following ideas: describe special or funny stories about your child for the class to hear, write a silly or serious poem about your child, tell us some neat things we may not know about your child, send silly or special pictures with a letter describing the pictures, or write a short story with your child as the main character. Remember, your child’s classmates will hear the letter!
Friday
The class will make a collage for our “Owl-standing” student of the week. These collages and your letters will be part of a book displayed in our classroom until the end of the year. Then, they will be returned to you.
