What is the schedule of Specialty Classes?
Monday: Music
Tuesday: Library
Wednesday: Gym
Thursday: Computers
Friday: Art
What is our room number?
We are room 2A.
Please label all of your child's belongings (including school and gym
uniforms) with your child's name and room number.
How can we contact Mrs. Ravenstahl?
Call the school office at 412-928-2742 X4 and leave a message. In your
message indicate a time and phone number at which it is convenient for
me to return your call. You may also email me at
spsravenstahl@yahoo.com. Please be aware that I may not be available to
check email until the end of the school day.
How does my child order lunch?
Please check the hot lunch menu at home with your child. Mark R-for the selection listed on the
calendar, S-for salad, or PBJ-for peanut butter and jelly sandwich. These are the ONLY choices for
lunch at this time. Your child must know what you want him/her to order BEFORE they come to
school. If you are ordering lunch tickets for your child, please send the check/cash to school in an
envelope marked with the child's name and 2A. Failure to do this may cause lunch tickets and
money to be misplaced!
Milk or juice can still be purchased in the cafeteria for 35 cents.
What is the policy for sending birthday treats to school?
If your child wants to share a treat with the class for his/her birthday, he/she
may do so. Time is very limited, so very small treats
prepared in individual portions work best. Cookie cakes, birthday
cakes, and cupcakes are messy and take too long to share. Please do
not send these as treats. Please send enough for everyone to have the
same kind of treat. Drinks are not necessary as we have easy access
to a water fountain. Please send napkins with all treats. We have 16 students.
How are the Homework/Notes folder and Homework Checklist used?
I have prepared a ?Homework/Notes? folder for your child. Please
check your child's folder EACH NIGHT! Any notes or papers I am finished with
will be placed in the Notes pocket on the right. Use the Notes pocket to
send any notes/lunch tickets/money to school as your child will be able
to easily locate them. Homework Checklists will be placed in the
Homework pocket on the left. Go over assignments with your child each
night. You will need to check that items assigned are completed and
you will need to sign the Checklist each night so that I know you saw the
homework and that you saw that it was completed (or not completed as
the case may sometimes be). Please do not sign the checklist until you
have checked all assignments. Students receive rewards for having
their checklists signed. It is their responsibility to have you do this. If
there is any confusion on any assignment, please send me a separate
note! The ?Homework/Notes? folder is a tool for your child to learn
organizational skills. If it is not checked and emptied of completed
assignments/notes nightly, the folder becomes cluttered and the
function as an organizational tool becomes obselete. Taking a few
minutes to review the folder contents together will show your child that
you are interested in their learning and that you are helping them to be
organized!
What should I do if my child is absent and misses school work?
If your child is absent, their missed assignments will be sent home
when they RETURN to school. If you will be requesting materials to be
sent home to your child, I need to be notified before 9:30 AM in order to
prepare them. Any materials requested after that time may not be sent
home until the following day. In the case of absences due to vacations,
work will not be sent until the child returns to school. This is the policy
stated in the SPS handbook. If your child will be bringing home work for
an absent sibling or other absent student, be advised that their book
bag will be heavy due to the extra materials. Please keep this in mind
when agreeing to allow your child to bring home materials for another
student. Thank you for your cooperation.
Can my child bring in an item to share with the class?
Other than articles that directly relate to a concept that we are teaching in
class, such as a rosary, we must limit sharing time. We do not have
time in our schedule to allow all chidren to share things with the class
on a regular basis. However, on the First Friday of each month, the children
are invited to bring religious articles/keepsakes to share if they wish. This is
optional. Please do not send very valuable or delicate items to school.
What if my child forgets his or her library book?
Please send the book the next day with the 5 cent/day fine.
Remember to include fines for weekend days.
