News & Notes

Happy SPRING!! We love the warmer weather!

In Reading class, we are learning more letters & sounds and at a faster rate.
The children are learning that these letters and sounds can be found at the
beginning or middle or end of a word. We have learned all 5 vowels now! We
will finish up the consonants soon. We are continuing our weekly spelling
tests with homework every day of the school week. We write our words one day
and write them in sentences another day! We really are turning into BIG
KIDS! Did you notice that we can write 3 sentence stories? We also call
these First, Next, Last stories. Encourage us at home to make and illustate
some stories too! Our new Reading Stories are called Mice Mischief and Any
Kind of Dog and The Enormous Carrot.

In March, we learned our numbers 20-100. In April, we counted money, learned
to tell time to the hour and half hour, and measurement. Now we are
beginning a geometery chapter. We add and subtract everyday with the morning
calendar. Please keep practicing at home too!

In Religion, we are still celebrating the joy of the Risen Lord at Easter and
the days He revealed Himself to His disciples. We are learning about the
Holy Spirit and how the Church began with Pentecost. May will have us
focussing on Mary and the Rosary again. We will crown our small Mary statue
each day and go to the All School May Crowning on Monday, May 20.

We LOVE our Smartboard!! Ask your child about some of the things we do on
it. Go to my LINKS section of this web page and do some of the activities at
home too!

All K2 kids will be "Student of the Week" twice this year. We will
learn all about your child during his/her special week. Your student will
have special jobs during his or her week and get to bring something in for a
Show and Tell Day. More information will come about this special week when
it is your child's turn.

We are always practicing our listening and following direction skills.
We are also printing, coloring, and cutting carefully. Encourage us at
home.

PLEASE PRACTICE PRINTING your first AND LAST NAME with a beginning capital
and the rest lowercase! We really are turning into big kids.

Practice the ANGEL Way! St. Philip School encourages our children to follow
The A.N.G.E.L. Way (Acquiring Natural Goodness in Everyday Life). Our
children will get to know Jesus and our Catholic Faith. We will learn
prayers, songs, and participate in many activities that will make us feel
closer to God. Our fourth virtue is Stewardship. This means taking care of
God's Creation - His world, animals, and people- in many different ways!
