Behavior Management

There is a stoplight posted on the inside of our classroom door.
Each kindergartener has a clothespin with her name on it clipped
onto the stoplight. Green means she was a good listener, yellow
means she was given one warning and red means two warnings.
Warnings are given for the following reasons: disrespecting a
teacher or another student, not listening, or breaking a
classroom rule.
The children will keep track of their stoplight color daily on a
calendar that will stay in their homework folder for the entire
month. If they stay on green all week, they will be given a
special treat on Friday. An entire month of green will result in
an extra special reward.

Star Chart

Throughout the year we will be working on learning important
information, like our birthdays, addresses, phone numbers, etc.
We will keep track of what we have learned on our star chart. The
star chart is located on the window next to the door. I will let
you know what we are working on so that you can reinforce the
information at home, and also when your child masters the
information.
Please remember, all children learn in different ways and at
different paces, so it is okay if it takes longer for your child
to learn certain things.

Homework

Each student will have a homework folder. They will receive
homework on a regular basis. One side of the folder will be
the “bring back” side, with papers that need to be returned to
school the next day (homework, notes, etc.) The other side will
be the “keep home” side, with completed work that can taken out
and kept at home. Please clean out the folder every night.

Newsletters

I will be sending a newsletter home on Fridays to let you know
what we did during the week, and to remind you of important
events for the upcoming week.

Snacks and Lunch

A morning snack will be provided daily for the students. Special
snacks are always welcome for birthdays, name days, or other
special days.

We will be eating lunch downstairs in Mrs. Peters’ classroom. We
do have a refrigerator and a microwave downstairs. If you pack a
lunch that needs to be refrigerated, please let me know in the
morning so that we can bring it downstairs. We do not provide
lunch, so please pack lunch for your child.

Please, try to avoid food with peanuts.

Parent/Family Visits

Parents are always welcome to visit our room! If you would like
to observe our class or plan some kind of activity...cooking,
making a craft, reading a story, playing an instrument, etc.
please let me know and I can schedule it. We love having our
parents as teachers too!

How to reach Mrs. Saemmer

It is very important to me to have open communication with both
my students and their parents. I would be happy to address any
questions or concerns that you may have, either in person or over
the phone (610) 867-1530. You may also send notes to school with
your child. There will be a bin for notes next to our homework
bin.

You can also contact me via email at cnsaemmer@gmail.com. I
will check my email at least once a day, but not necessarily
before school. If it is something urgent, please call the school
instead.

Toys from Home

Please discourage your child from bringing toys to school. They
can cause fights between the students and distract them from
their work. We have plenty of toys in the classrooms for them to
play with during their free time. All electronic devices should
also stay home, or in backpacks. If your child brings in
something that becomes a distraction I will take it away and
return it to her at the end of the day.

Quiet Reading Time

It is NOT nap time! Our class will rest for about 20 minutes each
day after lunch and recess. Your child is not required to go to
sleep but must rest and relax quietly during this time. As the
children become familiar with this quiet time routine I will give
the children the option to Rest or Read. Later on in the year
this quiet time will become Rest, Read or wRite time and the
children may choose what they’d like to do for their quiet time
break.

What you can do with your children at home

Practice writing thier name, tracing letters of the
alphabet, and numbers 0-30. As the year progresses, we will work
on learning different important information for our star chart,
such as birthdays, addresses, etc. It is important that you work
on those with your child as well. If you have any questions about
what else you can do to help, feel free to ask!
