Sight Words: Learning the sight words will be a year long assignment. The list of sight words for the year is listed on this web site under "sight words". Please make flashcards of these words. New words will be assigned each week. You will find this information on my web page. It will also be listed on the homework section of the website . The new words must be memorized by Thursday of the week the words are assigned. Children do not try to sound out sight words. We are working on a cumulative list for the year. Please work on the new words for the week, and all of the other words that have been assigned previously. The first grade teachers expect the children to be able to read these words when school starts in September 2012. Thanks for all of your help with this assignment.
Homework: If your child has written homework, please be sure that the paper is signed upon completion. Please check the homework section of my website daily to be sure all assignments are completed on time. Thanks
Arrival/Rainy or Cold Days: If it is raining or very cold, the children will not wait outside in the morning. Please follow the car line up to the main building and let your child out. Your child will enter the building and we will be waiting for him/her there.
Snack/Lunch: Please pack all supplies (fork, spoon, straw, etc) that your child needs to eat his/her snack and lunch every day. We do not have those supplies in the classroom. Thanks for your help and cooperation with this. When there is a half day of school, we still have snack time. Please be sure your child has a snack and a drink packed in a lunchbox.
Reading: Please read to your child every night. This is one of the most important things you can do for your child this year. Exposing your child to books every day will help to have him/her become a reader.
Gym: The children will have gym class every Wednesday. If your child has the gym uniform (grey t-shirt and mesh shorts in the Fall and Spring and grey t-shirt in the Winter), they are welcome to wear it on Wednesdays.
Library: Library books are due every Wednesday (unless noted otherwise on the weekly homework sheet). Please remind your child to bring the book to school on time. We are trying to help the children learn to be responsible. Thanks so much for your help in this area.
Birthdays: On your child's birthday, you are asked to send in a simple treat for the class. Please be sure that it can easily be divided (Munchkins, cupcakes, brownies, and cookies work well).
Money: If you are sending money into school, it needs to be in an envelope. Please mark the envelope with the following information: child's name - K21 - $ amount - what money is for. Thanks for your cooperation.
Dish Towel: Your child will bring his/her dish towel home every Friday. Please send in a clean dish towel every Monday. Thanks
Absences/Lateness/Leaving Early: If your child is absent from school, please call the school office (610-828-3082) to report the absence. Please also e-mail ne concerning your child's absence. When your child returns to school, you need to send in a note explaining the absence. This note is kept on file for the year. If you are going away, you can send in a note ahead of time. I will forward it to the office. That way, you do not need to call the school office to report the absence.
If your child will be late to school for any reason, please take your child to the main office to receive a late slip. Then you may bring your child to the classroom.
If your child needs to leave early, please send in a note that morning. When you arrive, please go to the office to sign out your child. Then you may pick up your child from our classroom.
Tag Days: About once a month, the school sponsors a "tag day". On these days, the children do not need to wear the school uniform. The children pay $1.00 to participate in the tag day. The money collected goes to a charitable cause. The weekly communications will state the date and cause for that month. K21 children must wear sneakers on tag days. This is for your child's safety when we are outside playing. Thanks for your generosity.
