Grading Rubric and Class Expectaions

According to Archdiocesan recommendations, Special teachers evaluate students
in Fourth through Eighth Grades based on a 4 point scale; 4 being the highest
grade achievable. These grades are earned primarily through performance in
class activities, effort and participation. Other considerations include
assignments and projects based on the expectations of individual teachers.

The SPN handbook sets forth that the educational objective of the school
is "to integrate learning experiences from all subject areas in order to
provide a unified vision of the childs total environment." The Special
subjects; Art, Gym, Library, Music, Technology and Spanish, are intended to
enhance the total educational experience for every child.

The actual Rubric for Physical Education dictated by the Archdiocese reads as
follows:

4= Exceeding: Demonstrates complete understanding and high achievement of
the physical education standards targeted during marking period

3= Developing appropiately: Demonstrates satisfactory understanding and
adequate achievement of the physical education standards targeted during
marking period

2= Needs Improvement: Demonstrates some understanding and minimal
achievement of the physical education standards targeted during marking period

1= Unsatisfactory: Demonstrates little or no understanding and limited
achievement of the physical education standards targeted during marking period

As stated on the teacher page, Physical Education is a subject that
incorporates the total student's mind, body and spirit. If that student
brings all of those attributes to the gym, he/she will excel. Team play
involves cooperation and effort with teammates as well as the coach. Lack of
cooperation, rude or disrespectful behavior results in consequences; not only
for the player but the team. This translates to the class, and the grade.
I expect cooperation, participation, effort and respect and they will receive
the same.
