Survey #1
Ellen Eisenberg, from the PA Institute for Instructional Coaching, sent an
email requesting assistance in forwarding the following request to reading
specialists and literacy coaches in the Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12 area.
Will you please forward the survey link to the reading specialists and/or
literacy coaches in your district? Here is the text of her email:
This is the link that Rita Bean asked me to disseminate. It is the link to
the online survey from IRA and NCTE. The survey data will be used to update
the position statement on The Role of the Reading Specialist (2000) and The
Reading Coach (2004).
If you are a reading specialist or literacy coach, please complete the
survey by March 21. If you know coaches or reading specialists, please send
them this link. If the link doesn’t connect you directly to the survey, cut
and paste the link in your browser. If you receive this link more than once,
please complete the survey only once.

Thanks so much for participating.
Survey #2
I am a Professor of Curriculum and Instruction at Kent State University, and
former classroom teacher. I am tired of hearing the public say that teachers
don’t work very hard. After all, the kids leave at 3:15, they have summers
off – you know the type of perceptions I am talking about.
I looked in the literature and found NO studies documenting the extent to
which teachers work AND how much of their own money they spend on their job,
purchasing books, going to conferences, buying additional supplies, etc.
I have designed just such a survey. Before the internet and software that
help us do surveys, this sort of data were difficult to collect. But, the
results will only have clout if there are really big numbers of responses.
Would you be willing to look over this survey? If you think it’s useful,
would you be willing to send it out to your preK-12 classroom teachers? If
you could, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for your consideration!
