Fall Meeting 2008

 
October 15, 2008             Lester L. Laminack 
                                              
     We are very fortunate to have Lester L. Laminack as our featured 
speaker on October 15, 2008!  His topic will be Reading Aloud Across the 
Curriculum, which is appropriate for audiences K-12.  Lester is a full-time 
writer and consultant working with schools throughout the United States, and 
is a retired Professor Emeritus with the department of Birth-Kindergarten, 
Elementary and Middle Grades Education, at Western Carolina University in 
Cullowhee, North Carolina where he received two prestigious awards for 
excellence in teaching (the Botner Superior Teaching Award and the 
Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award).  
 
     His publications include several academic books such as Learning with 
Zachary (Scholastic), Spelling in Use (NCTE), Volunteers Working with Young 
Readers (NCTE), his contributions to The Writing Workshop: Working Through 
the Hard Parts(NCTE), Learning Under the Influence of Language and 
Literature: Building Bridges Across the Curriculum with Picture Books and 
Read Alouds and Reading Aloud Across the Curriculum. He is also the author 
of Cracking Open the Author's Craft published by Scholastic. In addition, he 
has several articles published in journals such as The Reading Teacher, 
Science and Children, Language Arts, Primary Voices, and Young Children.  
 
     Lester is also the author children’s books: The Sunsets of Miss Olivia 
Wiggins, Trevor’s Wiggly-Wobbly Tooth, Saturdays and Teacakes, Jake’s 100th 
Day of School, and Snow Day.

From the east or west via Route 30:

Take Route 30 to I-83 and follow 1-83 south to Exit 18. See directions from 
Exit 18 below.

From Exit 18 of I-83:

Proceed west on Route 124 for approximately 1 mile. Turn left on Albemarle 
Street. Follow Albemarle Street for five blocks to campus entrances on 
right. Enter at Edgecomb Avenue for Pullo

Family Performing Arts Center parking. 

From City of York: 

Travel south on Queen Street to Rathton Road. Turn left on Rathton Road and 
proceed for approximately one mile to Albemarle Street.  Turn left on 
Albemarle and drive two blocks to the campus entrances on the left. Enter at 
Edgecomb Avenue for Pullo Family Performing Arts
